Techshow spotlights new AI-enabled toys, gadgets for lawyers, including desktop robot pet

It may feel like artificial intelligence has taken over this year’s ABA Techshow. It turns out that Techshow isn’t the only big expo where that is the case.
On Friday, Tennessee attorney William T. Ramsey spoke of his experience earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas—one of the largest electronics trade shows in the country.
“AI was literally everywhere,” Ramsey said. “AI is such a big part of our economy; it’s the biggest driver in tech.”
Ramsey, a member at Neal & Harwell specializing in complex civil and criminal litigation, joined 150,000 of his fellow tech “nerds” (in his words) to wander through more than 2.5 million feet of exhibits that have come a very long way in the last few decades (he recalls viewing the first VCR highlighted in 1970).
During a Friday session at Techshow, he presented his favorite findings, ranging from smart pens to the latest wearable devices.

One of his favorite AI-driven devices was Bee, an AI wearable that looks like a bracelet but actually listens to conversations throughout the day. In states such as Tennessee, where just one person has to consent to being recorded, this device will listen and record the conversations, and it will automatically add key dates into a calendar, send quick emails that were discussed, and even tells the wearer when to adjust their tone of voice.
It’s sort of like a very curious, slightly annoying, helpful spy that can be brought everywhere and anywhere, he said. At the end of the day, a transcript of conversations will be received.
Another helpful device that is starting to be utilized in and out of the courts, Ramsey said, is the Vasco Translator Q1. This device understands and translates 50 languages, responding to conversations by cloning voices. Ramsey recently tried using the Vasco Translator when communicating with a friend who speaks Spanish.
“You attach it to your phone, and in real time, you can talk to the other person,” he said. “When I speak, it converts to Spanish. When he speaks, I hear it back in English.”

Ramsey was particularly amused by the humanoid robots that wandered the floor of the conference, he said, describing them as “creepy” but “stunning.” Ramsey conversed with one of the robots that resembled a brown-haired woman. The robot, he said, gestured with its hands, listened to his questions, answered appropriately and even changed its facial expressions reflecting their talk.
If that’s a little too extreme, Ramsey said, another option is the Emo desktop AI robot pet, which has a personality and ideas, communicates with him, and doesn’t have to be taken out for a walk.
“If you really feel lonely sitting at your desk, get yourself an Emo pet,” he said, laughing.
Having a pet is scientifically proven to provide relief from stress, but if the Emo pet isn’t enough, Ramsey suggests grabbing a Kirin Electric Salt Spoon, which sends a harmless electric current to the tongue to make food taste like it’s been salted. Was it inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Possibly.
Computers were also a huge category at the show. Nearly all are already set up with a neuroprocessing unit, which is built in so that chosen AI programs can be run locally. Ramsey was very impressed with the Asus Zenbook A14, which includes Copilot, and the LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 laptop, which was lightweight and had everything necessary for all AI needs.
